“The Orb Factory is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Now in it’s sixteenth year in business, The Orb Factory was created in 1990 by Steve Kay, and began after Steve found success creating and selling The Celestial Orb, a wire transforming toy, at local craft markets. New products were added to the line and soon The Orb Factory’s toys were being sold around the world.
As a creative toy manufacturer, The Orb Factory prides itself on creative designs, high quality products, and outstanding customer service. Every step of the process, from idea development through to the manufacturing of the final product, is completed at The Orb Factory. This allows the company to keep focusing on those aspects which are the most important. For example, every product has an educational component to it. As a result, many have been recognized as useful learning tools in the classroom. For items that are made by sub-contracted manufacturers, Orb factory employees are rigorously involved in production decisions and the quality control process.
Steven Kay has always been interested in pattern & geometry. Coming from a background in photography, sculpture and design, he first began making transforming toys in 1983. From this interest grew The Orb Factory.
Since these early days, Steve has worked to integrate sculpture and geometry, producing a score of fascinating and unusual designs, working with wire, wood, elastic and magnets. Not only do these toys provide hours of engaging exploration, but in many cases these transforming toys are of particular geometrical significance.
In the recent years, Steve has expanded his interest to the fields of digital photography and graphic design. This has resulted in an array of spectacular puzzles, memory card games and, most recently, a new line of creative art kits. After more than 15 years in business, Steve knows that he has made it this far by focusing on the important things: great designs, high quality, and outstanding customer service.
